United in the Spirit

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

As I sit down to write this my heart is heavy because of all that is taking place in our nation, state, and city. I am finding that it is even taking place in households. There seems to be struggles that are impacting the lives of so many during this time which makes it difficult.

Hearts are hurting because of the issues that are being faced at every level in our world. If it isn’t something dealing with the pandemic it is something dealing with the protests that are taking place. My heart is heavy because of things that have been said and done by people all over our nation.

I am saddened that our officials elected to represent us are unable to find a common ground on which to stand. It seems like no matter what is taking place they are unable to get what they want. They are finding it difficult to acknowledge the rights of others and have even made statements that have brought others down.

I believe it is time that we once again surrender what is taking place to our Lord and Savior. He is the One that will be able to bring about the healing and restoration that is needed at this time. We must live our lives with God at the center of all we do and say. Then and only then will we find the healing that is needed.

I know that Paul was writing to the NT church in Ephesus in the book we call Ephesians. Yet I believe there is a word for us at this time. There is something that once again rises up to deliver to us a word that will carry us forward in the days to come.

In Ephesians 4:1-6, Paul was speaking about the unity in the Spirit. Unity in the Spirit is something that will carry us forward in the days ahead and allow us to be who and what God desires us to be. In the midst of these times, God desires for us to be unified in His Spirit so that we can accomplish the tasks ahead of us.

Paul wrote in these verses -- 1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. (NLT)

What Paul calls for evidently isn’t easy. It seems that our desires sometimes get in the way of doing what God wants us to do and being the people God wants us to be. It is so easy to allow our desires to step in the way of what God wants for us.

I believe at this time we need to hear what Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus -- ‘Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.’ He didn’t say it would be easy or that we would be able to do it on our own. He simply said – make every effort.

It is my hope and prayer that even when things don’t go the way I want them to go, that I will do all I can to stay united in the Spirit with those God has placed beside me in this time.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
