Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Early last week I had gone by the hospital to check on a man and I met several in the family.  There was one there that absolutely stole my heart.  I’m not sure how old she is, but I think she is about 9 years old.  I was immediately drawn to her smile and her personality.

She was the great granddaughter of the patient and granddaughter of the man’s daughter.  As I was standing at the door to the room she came over to where I was visiting with some of the family.  I noticed something about her and brought attention to it.

She was wearing a Texas Tech t-shirt.  I thought that I would pick on her just a bit and told her that I could get her a really nice Oklahoma State t-shirt.  You should have seen the look on her face.  She then pulled her shirt out a bit and said – “Texas Tech is the only one!”

That started something that continued on the whole time I was there.  No matter what I said, she was going to hold to Texas Tech.  As far as she was concerned there was no other school than Tech and she wasn’t going to let me forget it.

As I walked away that day I was completely taken by her support for Texas Tech.  The man did pass away and I went to visit with the family on Thursday.  When I saw her that day, I told her that I had forgotten the O-State t-shirt but would make sure she got it.  Just like before she got that look on her face and said, “No, only Texas Tech!”

On the day of the service, I didn’t say anything to her except hello.  She just smiled and said Hi!  After the service at the Mausoleum at Memory Gardens, I was talking with her grandmother when her grandfather handed me a gift sack.  He said that his granddaughter wanted me to have it.

I was a little hesitant about opening it up, but I did.  It was a Red Raiders cap!  She was grinning from ear to ear and wouldn’t let it go until I had put it on in front of everybody.  Her enthusiasm for the Red Raiders came out of that bag and went on my head.

As I thought about it later, I was completely overwhelmed.  In the midst of all her family was going through she wanted me to love her Red Raiders as much as she did.  With a great passion, she did whatever she could to make sure that I heard what she was saying.

I then thought about how Christians need to be doing all they can to make sure that people hear the good news of Jesus Christ.  It should be in our thoughts at all times.  It should be something that we tell everyone we meet.

In Matthew 10 when Jesus was instructing His disciples about things they should do, He said something we need to hear.  In v.27, He said, “What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.”  He wanted them to tell others the ways of the Lord.

As we go through each day wherever we are, we need to be telling people about Jesus.  It is important that we let people know that Jesus is ‘the only one’ that can bring eternal life.  You don’t have to wear a t-shirt, but you do have to be willing to tell others who He is and what He has done.

This young girl has got my attention.  Will you get someone’s attention today telling them Jesus is the only one?

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
