Thankful for Moms

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Life. It is something that is all around us as we go through each day. It fills each moment as we move from one event to another. I would have to agree with the one person that said – Where there is breath there is life.

This past weekend we drove to Norman to celebrate the graduation of Camryn from high school. She wasn’t going to walk across a stage but we had a party to celebrate this special time. She is going to college at KU in the fall. She really seems to be excited at what the days ahead hold for her.

We just spent time at Rayford and Candice’s house having a good time. One of the things that I had to laugh at was the number of cards that were exchanged for Mother’s Day. Vicki had a handful, her mother had a handful and the girls each had handfuls.

Mother’s Day is a special time as we celebrate the Mother’s that have been and are in our lives. They are not always the biological women. Some are those who have stepped into our lives and been there for us so that we still have that influence in our lives.

Since my mother passed away in February of 2019 things have been different for me. The woman who raised me and provided for me through the years is no longer with me. I still recall all the things that she did for me, but it is definitely different than when she was here with us.

But it is so great that God has brought others into my life so at this time it is made easier. Of course, there is Vicki. She has such a strong spirit and great love that reaches out to her children, grand-children and for me as well. God has truly blessed our family in a wonderful way.

Vicki’s mother is still with us. They talk every day over the phone. It is funny at times about all they talk about. Sometimes it’s about the lawn work, the bird feeder, the dishes that need to be done or how much trouble they’re having with the men in their lives (that’s Bob and me)!

Yet there are women that have no idea how much I enjoy getting to visit with them and just talk about all that’s going on. They may be someone else’s mother but they fill the vacancy left from my mother’s passing. It just helps to have those in my life that walk with me along the way.

Even though my mother is no longer with us, I still remember the things that she worked so hard to accomplish in her life. Some of it came from the kitchen as she baked that wonderful peach or apricot cobbler. Some of it came as I watched her sit in her chair reading her Bible. Then there were the times when she would teach a children’s Sunday School class.

Regardless of what she did, it was always to teach someone what God had revealed to her. Proverbs 6:20-21 says -- 20 My son, comply with the commandment of your father, And do not ignore the teaching of your mother; 21 Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.

I realize that Mom didn’t do everything perfectly, but she definitely did her best. She just had a desire to be the woman God would have her be. I am blessed to be married to a mother that truly does her best for her children and grand-children.

I made Vicki’s card for Mother’s Day. I found a saying that I put on the front that said – “To the world you are a mother, to our family you are the world.” She truly is the world to her family. She is so loved as a mother and woman of God.

I realize that Mother’s Day has passed but continue each day to let the mothers in your life know how thankful you are that God has placed them in your life.

JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, there IS something about that name!!

Christ only, always,

Bro. Paul
